Guan won the 2012 Asia-Pacific Amateur at Amata Spring Country Club in Thailand by one stroke over Chinese Taipei’s C.T. Pan. Weighing just 125 pounds and averaging 250 yards off the tee, he shot rounds of 66-64-72-71 to win in wire-to-wire fashion less than two weeks after celebrating his 14th birthday. Leading by five strokes through 36 holes, his advantage fell to two after the third round and was able to hold off a hard-charging Pan who opened with 75 but closed 67-67-65. The following April at Augusta National, he made Masters history as the youngest to start, to make the cut and earn Low Amateur honors at the age of 14.
