Chang is making his first Championship start. Earlier in 2024, he reached the Round of 32 in the U.S. Amateur at Hazeltine National Golf Club. The 2023-2024 season was his first for the University of Virginia and he had six top-25 finishes in eight starts. In summer 2023, he qualified for and then competed in the U.S. Amateur at Cherry Hills Country Club without a World Amateur Golf Ranking. He advanced to the Round of 16 after defeating 2023 U.S. Walker Cup team member Caleb Surratt on the 22nd hole of their match. He did not begin playing golf seriously until he moved to England from China as a teenager.
