For the first time in the event’s 16-year history, the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship will be held in the greater Auckland area at Te Arai Links’ South Course this month.

After a stop at Royal Wellington Golf Club in 2017, the Championship ventures north to Te Arai – a links-style venue established in 2022 that overlooks the Pacific Ocean.

Te Arai Links – an international destination favourite among touring professionals and amateurs since its opening – will host the biggest event in its history later this month.

The Asia-Pacific Amateur, supported by Auckland Council Events, takes place from October 29 – November 1 (airing 2-5 p.m. locally in New Zealand each day) with 120 of the top players from 40 nations in the Asia-Pacific region represented, including six from the host country. Ryan Fox, the most recent champion of The Open, claims Te Arai as his home course.

“We are incredibly honoured to be hosting the Asia-Pacific Amateur at Te Arai Links in 2026,” said Jim Rohrstaff, Managing Director of Te Arai Links. “This is one of the top amateur tournaments in the world and run by some of the top organisations in golf. As a very young facility (opened in October of 2022), this reiterates what a special place we have here in New Zealand. Having an event with the best amateur golfers in the Asia Pacific region is going to be phenomenal against the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean. Our team, membership and the New Zealand golf community will be cheering on all of the amateurs that are privileged to qualify for the Championship.”

Through the support of Te Arai Links and Auckland Council Events, in partnership with Tātaki Auckland Unlimited – the cultural, events and destination agency for New Zealand’s largest city – players will be treated to the region known for its culture, natural beauty and waterfront vistas.

“Auckland continues to grow as a globally renowned golf destination and we’re excited to welcome the 2026 Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship to Tāmaki Makarau Auckland,” says Annie Dundas, Director Destination, Tātaki Auckland Unlimited. “Te Arai Links is a world-class experience – combining multiple internationally ranked links golf courses, luxury accommodation, exceptional on-site dining, spa and leisure facilities – all set within one of the most beautiful coastal locations in New Zealand and 70 minutes from downtown Auckland.”

With more than 30 premium golf courses across the area, Auckland serves as the ideal launch point for the 120 players vying to win and claim the opportunity of a lifetime: joining the Masters Tournament and The Open in 2027.
