Yu is making his first Championship start in 2025. Before beginning his collegiate career at the University of California, San Diego, he had one win and five top-10 finishes in World Amateur Golf Ranking events in China earlier this year. In 2024, he was a member of the International team in the Junior Presidents Cup along with Rayhan Latief, Anh Minh Nguyen and Kartik Singh.
